Worship and Intercession Part 1
Last week on a zoom prayer call I asked that we start with worship before intercession. Worship goes hand in hand with intercession. Whether corporate or our private prayer time, worship releases intercession. In Revelation, the smoke of incense, together with the prayers of the saints went up before God from the angel’s hand. (Rev. 8:1-4) From this passage and many others we can draw the conclusion that worship is a necessary part in the releasing of our prayers. When intercession flows from our worship, a mighty work of God is accomplished in heaven, that brings forth the purposes of God on earth.
Worship and intercession go hand in hand. The person with a true heart of intercession will quite naturally find themself slipping into worship, because both of these aspects of prayer are fueled by the Holy Spirit and flow from our spirit. Worship is the propellant which sends our prayer-rockets heavenward and gives them the “boost” to make it all the way to the throne.
Those of us who are intercessors have a very important role in the corporate worship settings where seeking His presence is understood. This carries over to whether we are praying corporately in a group, with a couple of others or just you. In my private prayer time I might worship God with His word, in song or just my words.
Let me elaborate on His Presence. Yes God is omnipresent, meaning he is everywhere at the same time. So, in that sense, He is always present among His people. What I am speaking about here, when I say His Presence among us, I mean a tangible sense that He has drawn very near. For the spiritually attentive person, God’s presence will be suddenly felt, whereas it was not felt moments before, and we know He has “entered the room or “come down” among us. When we worship with clean hands and a pure heart, experiencing this communion with the Lord in this way should be the norm, once we know that we can expect it.
In the next few weeks I will elaborate more on this topic because it does impact our corporate and personal prayer time so much.
