Why would an educated woman sell lipstick? Better yet why would a woman who has been in full time ministry for over 25 years join Mary Kay? The short answer is:

1. College tuition
2. Retirement Account
3. Financial Security

Here is a longer answer. I was on the pastoral staff at Skyline Wesleyan Church in San Diego when I got pregnant with Matthew. My plan was to continue in ministry. Anyone in ministry understands the hours and demands. After having my 1st baby (Matthew) I realized I wanted to be with him all day every day.

In 1996 my husband and I moved to Alabama. I needed a job but I did not want to put my child in day care. After researching companies on my own at the library I made a decision to join MK. In Fortune 500 I read that only 2% of millionaires in the US are women. Of that 2%, 70% are with Mary Kay. It moved me that MK donates millions to shelters for abused women and for cancer research. I did not know anyone with MK nor had I even tried the product. It seemed if they were the #1 seller in skin care and cosmetics they had to be good. I found a consultant in the phone book, tried the products and loved them. I was a Lancôme girl for years but not anymore.

1996 I joined MK.
1997 I won a car and became a Director
1998 I had my 2nd baby, Aaron.
1999 Have a serious car accident. A year worth of health care and MK Insurance pays 100% of it.
2000 We move to Madison. I quit MK and gave my customers away.
2002 Todd is now in ministry and I join MK for the 2nd time. I wanted to send my children to private school and pay our mortgage. I did this with MK.
2003 I won a car and became a Director.
2006 We move to NYC for ministry and I quit MK. I give my customers away.

People do not go into the ministry for the money. In 2000 I started a non-profit organization called www.Winfluence.org which is a ministry that mentors women. But it does take money to live so each time I was in MK it helped support our family. There were other perks in MK…. outreach, new friendships, using my training to develop women in leadership. Another plus close to my heart is many women I helped were able to stay home with their children instead of being forced to use day care.

The past few months I have had several friends who lost their husbands. In addition to feeling grief for them I asked myself what I would do if Todd passed away. I also have a freshman in college and a sophomore in high school. College is more expensive than I anticipated.

In recent months I have sought numerous jobs so that I could help with college expenses. I can’t even count how many times I have been told “Mrs. Seeley you are over qualified for this position.” Too many to count.

Toward the end of 2014 I joined MK for the 3rd (and last) time. I look forward to going into management and working with girlfriends. I am excited about working with http://www.pamelashaw.com again. And I am so excited that I can share Jesus at my job and pray without concern that someone might complain about it.

I still serve with my husband who is a senior pastor. I still oversee Bridge Christian Academy. I still speak at events for women. And I still have a child at home. All of these things are important to me. I’m so grateful that I can have a career on the side which will provide financial security for my future.

My passion is to coach an area of women that are independently successful; spiritually & emotionally healthy, financially stable who add value to others in their circle of influence. And I get paid for doing this?

Mary Kay is so much more than selling lipstick!
