Yesterday I blogged about this being “The Last Year” before my first born son goes off to college. I was asked about practical ways we spend time together as a family, here is the standard & also what I am started doing this year.
Standard: Most nights we have dinner together. When the boys are have ball games we usually eat late. Family night 2 x week. Church together weekly then lunch if we don’t have a meeting. Could count on one hand the number of times the boys have missed church. A family vacation every year. Sunday is family lunch day unless we have a church lunch meeting which boys attend if we do.
New this year: Todd has made the boys breakfast for many years. I make their school lunch. This year I have coffee with Matthew as he eats and then we read Scripture together. Once a week we have a date night. This year I will invite him on any speaking trips that I go on. We are visiting colleges as a family. We have also started going to the gym together as a family. I try to keep flex time in my schedule for anything spontaneous. I make it a priority to be home when he arrives from school. Wednesday is the only exception.
What about you? What ideas do you have for spending quality time with your family?
